Great American Stamp Show - Aug 15-18, 2024

August marks the beginning of another busy season for the local post. Rattlesnake Island Local Post will be unveiling the new 2024 "Island Aviation Over the Decades" issue on stage at the GASS - Hartford, CT. show. The new issue will be unveiled at 3:00 Friday August 16th on the main stage.

I will be on stage with Scott English of the APS as the MC, and Bill Schultz the author of the first RILP catalog. Following the presentation we will be signing postcards specially designed for the unveiling event with the new stamp designs on them.

Rattlesnake Island Local Post will be at table #626, near the stage for the 4-day GASS.

In other news, the restoration of the 1930's Rosback perforating machine is nearing completion. The punch pins, pin holder, and punch die had to be replaced as they were too worn out to use. These parts are no longer available and had to be designed and made from scratch. It is amazing the craftsmanship machinists had a century ago. Even with a computerized CNC machine, the production of the pin holder and punch die plate were challenging. With only a .0035 of an inch difference between the punch pins and die and 15 pins per inch, there is very little room for error.

More blogs to come with pictures.

For the first time in nearly 2 decades, RILP will be hosting a first day of issue ceremony. The event will take place Sept. 10th, 2024 at the Liberty Aviation Museum located next to the Port Clinton Airport at 1:00. The public will be welcome to attend. Much more information to follow.

Dave Gill - RILP Postmaster General

And yes, even on the new upcoming issue, 6 stamps will make a hexagon.
